Miley Cyrus has become a powerhouse in the music industry. She originally became well-known through her role as the star of Disney show Hannah Montana. When Cyrus began making her transition from a child star to an adult celebrity, there was a lot she realized about her time in the limelight as a kid. “There’s so much I don’t remember about being a child entertainer because it was so much to keep in my brain,” she told online sources. “It’s like anything when you are in it. I didn’t realize how much pressure I was under and how that shaped me until, like, this year.”
While in her childhood career, there was a lot of criticism surrounding her. “People were so shocked by some of the things that I did,” she said. “It should be more shocking that when I was 11 or 12, I was put in full hair and makeup, a wig, and told what to wear by a group of mostly older men.”
Miley Cyrus reflected back to how she changed so much during her time on Hannah Montana, which she says is kind of how her journey has been in real life. “I’m not saying I’ve never been myself,” she said. “Who I was on the last record [Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz] was really who I am. It’s just myself has been a lot of different people because I change a lot.”
She has gone through quite the metamorphosis as a star, and has had to undergo many changes depending on where she was in her career. But one thing that Miley hopes for regarding her fans: she wants them to see that she is always authentic. “I think I show people that they can be themselves,” she said. “I also think something that has been important for me, in this next little, like, transition phase of my career is that I don’t give a f–k about being cool. I just want to be myself.”
As an adult, she has also been associated with some other big name celebrities, especially in her dating life. One of the most highly talked about relationships she’s been in was with Liam Hemsworth. They started dating back in 2009, and were actually engaged from 2012 to 2013. They spent some time apart, but eventually found each other again in 2016, and even went on to get hitched in 2018. Unfortunately, their marriage did not last long. They split in 2019 and officially divorced in 2020.
Miley Cyrus dished about how she felt about the split, and that it was a hard realization to come to regarding her feelings for Liam Hemsworth, as well as all of the negative media attention. “What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore,” Cyrus said in 2020 on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. “That’s OK, I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainizing and just all those stories.”
